Who Loves the Truth – Like Balaam?

A very good friend of mine suggested that those who really love the truth, will always try to teach others in a manner which may make the truth incontrovertible. However, no matter how obvious we think the truth may be, it will always remain hidden from those whom the Lord, according to his wisdom, has judged as being proud, stubborn and not sincerely eager to embrace the truth. The truth often hurts.

There are many who seem eager for God to come near them, they pay lip service to God but their hearts remain far from him. Only through faith in Jesus are people able to draw near to God and have his Spirit come upon them. For the most part, people resist the Holy Spirit.

“Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet. Declare to my people their rebellion and to the descendants of Jacob their sins. For day after day they seek me out; they seem eager to know my ways, as if they were a nation that does what is right and has not forsaken the commands of its God. They ask me for just decisions and seem eager for God to come near them” (Isaiah 58:1-2).

The king of Israel (Ahab) answered Jehoshaphat, “There is still one prophet through whom we can inquire of the Lord, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” “The king should not say such a thing,” Jehoshaphat replied.

Later, when Micaiah was called to prophesy to King Ahab,…:

Micaiah said, “As surely as the Lord lives, I can tell him only what the Lord tells me.” When he arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or not?” “Attack and be victorious,” he answered, “for the Lord will give it into the king’s hand.” The king said to him, “How many times must I make you swear to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?” Then Micaiah answered, “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd, and the Lord said, ‘These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace.’” The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he never prophesies anything good about me, but only bad?”

The Lord said, ‘Who will entice Ahab into attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there?’ One suggested this, and another that. Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the Lord and said, ‘I will entice him.’ ‘By what means?’ the Lord asked. “‘I will go out and be a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,’ he said. “‘You will succeed in enticing him,’ said the Lord. ‘Go and do it.’ “So now the Lord has put a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours. The Lord has decreed disaster for you.”

Then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah went up and slapped Micaiah in the face. “Which way did the spirit from the Lord go when he went from me to speak to you?” he asked  (1 Kings 22:8; 14-18; 20-24).

Should Israel and the USA fight against Iran? Will they be victorious? Consult the false prophets and they will tell you what you want to hear.

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage —with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry (2 Timothy 4:1-5).

The ideology of Zionism was first propagated by professing Christians before it became a Jewish ideology and political mission. Since the founding of the modern state of Israel in 1948, false prophets have abounded. They have interpreted and distorted the Scriptures to suggest a favourable narrative for the modern State. They have said how the Jews will prosper in the Land, make it fertile and fruitful, advance and expand the borders to the original Biblical borders, take Jerusalem into Jewish hands to make it the capital city – and some have even suggested that the Temple will be rebuilt on its original foundations.

But how many true prophets have declared that the entire modern State is not established upon the only reliable foundation and that the modern builders of Zionism and Judaism have in fact rejected the foundation and the capstone and therefore, the whole building is destined to collapse.

“Christian Zionists” are following the reckless way of Balaam and Korah’s rebellion. They identify themselves with Jesus and profess to believe the Scriptures, but they are encouraging the building of a “Jewish state” which is actually in rebellion against Jesus the King and a State which is not laid upon the only sure foundation Stone. They are as reckless as Balaam and yet adamant that they will only say what God tells them to say. They evidently “love the truth” just as Balaam thought that he did too.

Balaam is notorious for being a reckless prophet that was more concerned with his own reputation and with money. There have been many “acclaimed” teachers who profess to be Christians, but who propagate lies to unbelieving Israel – too many to mention by name!

Jesus is the Truth – those who reject Jesus are liars as far as everything they say or do.

Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also (1 John 2:18-23).

What may those who claim to love the truth ever recklessly share in common with the liars – Zionism, perhaps?

If the nations want to know the truth, even if the truth hurts and “bursts the bubble” of all their false hopes and aspirations, leading them only to the cross and the suffering of Christ – they will, nevertheless put their hope and faith in Jesus as the only way to be reconciled to God. But all too often, the gospel is distorted in a manner which pleases the itching ears of those who only want success, prosperity and good health in this present world. Paul was imprisoned and made to suffer intensely for the sake of the good news of the kingdom of God.

They preached the gospel in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said. Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust (Acts 14:21-23).

Once, having heard a sermon assuring Christians that they were sons and daughters of the King of kings and they they should, therefore, expect to be treated as royalty in the world, free of all suffering and hardship, which the preacher suggested was the attack of the enemy, I tried to refer the preacher to the Scripture, which suggests that believers should endure hardship, (quoted below from the writer to the Hebrews). He rebuked me and tried to silence me for possibly undermining his very positive message of success, health and prosperity.

In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline —then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! (Hebrews 12:4-9).

If people love this present world – and if they love their life in the flesh with all its worldly comforts and if they think they love the truth of the gospel, they are probably self-deluded and inclined to believe a false gospel.

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever (1 John 2:15-17).

How many professing Christians secretly really love the world more than they love the truth? I will suggest that those professing Christian who love the world more than the truth, will also be inclined to prophesy lies for unbelieving Israel giving them false hope that in spite of their rejection of Jesus the Messiah, they will still be blessed by God on account of his grace alone

However, God’s grace leads to repentance but many have turned God’s grace into a license for immorality and even suggest that God’s grace tolerates rebellion against Jesus.

If God will show unmerited grace to unbelieving, rebellious Israel, so too, they convince themselves, will he show grace and bless the nations as the nations “bless Israel”. If one is inclined to believe one lie, so too, will one be prepared to tolerate and be lenient with another lie.

For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day —and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. Do your best to come to me quickly, for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica (2 Timothy 4:6-9).

Demas would have called himself a believer and a Christian, but he loved the world and abandoned the apostle Paul. How many Christians are like Demas, pretending to love the truth, but not fully devoted to it above all else because they secretly love the world? How many give only lip service to God?

If Jews really love the Law, if they really believe in Moses, if they really imitated the faithfulness of Abraham, if they really loved the truth – then it would be evident by their embracing Jesus as the Messiah-King and as the final Prophet of Israel and as the High Priest according to the New Covenant.

Jesus said, “I do not accept glory from human beings, but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?”

Jesus said of the unbelief of many Jews, “But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?” (John 5:41-46).

Those who reject Jesus actually unwittingly testify to the fact that they do not really love the truth – and if they do not love the truth, they will finally be handed over to a lie which they will not be able to discern as a lie. They will so believe the lie as if it were the undeniable,  incontrovertible truth.

Jesus rebuked the Jews for their unbelief and said, “Haven’t you read this passage of Scripture: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?” Then the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd; so they left him and went away (Mark 12:10-12).

The Jewish Zionists who welcome the support of the so-called, “Christian Zionists” know that they need to be careful in what they do and say, because if they were to really express their hatred of Jesus, they may face a backlash of anti-Judaism.

The most well respected Rabbi, Gamaliel, who was one of the last leaders of Israel, a member of the Sanhedrin before the desolation of Jerusalem in 70 AD, had this to say to all of Israel and the leadership:

Gamaliel addressed the Sanhedrin: “Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone!  (The apostles of Jesus the Messiah who were proclaiming the gospel to Israel.) Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God (Acts 5:35-39).

Israel may think that the Arab nations, or Egypt, or Iran or the Palestinian people are their enemies or their stumbling block to peace in the Middle East, but the truth of the matter is that while they rebel against Jesus the Messiah-King of kings, they are enemies of God and are actually fighting against God himself. They are rejecting God’s plan of peace which was to remove the former racial distinction between Jew and Gentile. Israel may think that the “Christian Zionists”are their most loyal friends, but true, loyal friends do not prophesy lies and nor do they give false assurance of peace and prosperity. The determination to build a “Jewish state” is contrary to God’s plan for peace, which is to create a new humanity through the power of the Holy Spirit where there is no longer any distinction between Jew and Gentile.

Would God ever deliberately hand people over to a powerful delusion so that they will believe a lie to their own destruction? Indeed, yes! The Lord sent a deceiving spirit to King Ahab because the King refused to believe the truth and he wanted to be told lies which indeed were more appealing to him. Before Jesus appears in his heavenly glory, all who refused to love the truth will believe a lie which will

not lead  to salvation, but to destruction. Jesus will not come to vindicate or save unbelieving Israel. Today is the day of salvation.

So-called, “Christian Zionists” are prophesying lies to unbelieving Israel and unbelieving Israel love to hear all the lies while they build an entire nation of nearly six million Jews on shifting sand destined to collapse in a heap of rubble! What an irony that the rationale for a Jewish state is the “Holocaust”, the death of “six million Jews”instead of the atoning sacrifice of one Jew, Jesus the Messiah.

What sets the Jews apart from the Gentiles? They were entrusted with the Law of Moses. However, if they try their utmost to live in obedience to the Law, setting themselves apart from the other nations, then the Law itself will become a curse to them, condemning them of their sin.

By trying to build an exclusively “Jewish state” will amount to rebuilding the very thing which condemned them in the first place in 70 AD! Once again they will find themselves stumbling against the Stumbling Stone, i.e. Jesus the Messiah who is building a new humanity by the power of the Holy Spirit.

If the Jewish state were to re-establish itself under the Law of Moses, it would be the very Law which they will transgress and bring upon themselves the wrath of God and all the curses enumerated in that very Law! The old humanity will always come under the condemnation of the Law.

“But if, in seeking to be justified in Christ, we Jews find ourselves also among the sinners, doesn’t that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not! If I rebuild what I destroyed, then I really would be a lawbreaker.

“For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!” (Galatians 2:17-21).

Israel may have aspirations to rebuild the temple with huge stones which are as dead as Judaism and the Old Covenant. The New Covenant temple is not built by the hands of mere men and it is being built with living stones to become a glorious, united building of a new humanity in whom the Spirit of God lives.

“Build up, build up, prepare the road! Remove the obstacles out of the way of my people.” For this is what the high and exalted One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite” (Isaiah 57:14-15).

The Jews were called to be a light to the nations and indeed the apostles of Jesus became just such a light as they proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God to the ends of the earth. Two outstanding Jews, well educated in the Law of Moses joined with the apostles of Jesus to proclaim the good news, namely Paul and Apollos.

A Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervour and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John. He began to speak boldly in the synagogue (Acts 18:24–26).

Apollos needed to be told the truth of the gospel more adequately, which is that through believing in Jesus, he was to receive and be empowered by the Holy Spirit through whom he would become a completely new human being.

Paul too, was a very learned Jew, well established in the knowledge of the Torah, but he too renounced his former life in Judaism, which he was prepared to forsake as dung compared to the knowledge of Jesus the Messiah and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit which sets people free from the restraint of the Law. The Old Covenant was inadequate to set sinners free from the sinful nature. The apostle Paul indeed became a light to the nations. As the apostle Paul testified about himself:

For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being. I did not go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went into Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus. Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem (Galatians 1:13-18).

And:

If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I {Paul] have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless.

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage [correctly translated, dung, excrement or in modern vernacular, bullsh*t), that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead (Philippians 3:4-11).

Our faith is not established upon the teachings of mere men, our faith is in Jesus the Messiah whom God raised from the dead an exalted to the highest throne ever assigned for any king – to be seated in heaven at the Right Hand of Almighty God.

What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labour. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.

By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames (1 Corinthians 3:5-15).

Whatever is not established on Jesus the Messiah is destined to collapse – and that includes Judaism, Zionism and a racist, Jewish state that does not even profess to believe in Moses by their actions and certainly not in Jesus the King of kings.

They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you. With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed —an accursed brood! They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer, who loved the wages of wickedness. But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey—an animal without speech—who spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness (2 Peter 2:13-16).

Jesus said, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law (Matthew 7:24-29).

Disclaimer: People reading my articles may think that I am anti-Zionism, but that impression is derived at because I am telling the truth, which is that Zionism is an ideology which is anti-Jesus and Antichrist- and opposed to the kingdom of God – in that it opposes God’s plan and purpose for peace, which is not to create a “Jewish” state, but rather a non-racial, new humanity filled with the Holy Spirit and the love of God.
