I was told that my, “Thinking Out Loud!” “article” was overwhelming.
So, this is my shortest article to date – (and by the way, the Scripture quotations don’t count):
Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body (Ecclesiastes 12:12).
Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few (Ecclesiastes 5:2).
We have a High Priest who is our mediator between God and humanity and He is seated on His throne in heaven.
Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God (Romans 8:24-27).
“And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him” (Matthew 6:7-8).
Dear friends, now we are children of God, (1 John 3:2).
“Heavenly Father, in the Name of our Lord Jesus, our glorious King in heaven, now that we are your children, please lead us in perfect obedience by your Spirit so that we too, may say as Jesus did: ‘Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does’” (1 John 3:2).
Of course, our purpose is nothing like that of our Saviour, but we too, are called into the obedience that comes from faithfulness.
Jesus said, “You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgement for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned” (Matthew 12:34-37).
Bring you tongue under the control of the Holy Spirit.
