For a very long time, President Donald Trump was apparently told that the hardest deal to negotiate would be peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Trump said that if his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, could not negotiate a peace deal, then it cannot be done. Jared Kushner was also quoted as confidently saying that he did not want people to talk to him about history as he wanted to negotiate a peace deal upon a clean slate.
The very basis upon which the Jewish people claim any right to the land in the Middle East is that they suppose that they have an ancient and historic God-given right to the Land, so if you want to start by disregarding history, then you have no basis whatsoever to annex, or take possession of the Land. Furthermore, as I have noted in previous articles, (see for example: What is So Hard to Understand? – The Parable of the Tenants ), the people would be tenants in the land according to the terms of God’s historical covenant with them. The terms included the warning that they would forfeit the right of occupancy on account of unfaithfulness as happened in with the seventy year Babylonian exile in the time of Nebuchadnezzar and again in 70 AD with the Roman siege upon Jerusalem.
However, even if we were to disregard the complex history of the Promised Land, for President Donald Trump to suggest that if Jared Kushner cannot negotiate a peace deal, then no one else could, is an affront to Jesus the Messiah, the Prince of Peace. Jared Kushner proposes a peace deal which completely ignores the people already living in the Land. The very name, “Jerusalem” means city “of peace”. It has been arrogantly suggested that the Palestinian people are unreasonable, stubborn and only hostile towards the founding of a Jewish state and that they do not want peace with Israel.
However, in this short article I wish to state very boldly, that neither President Donald Trump, nor Jared Kushner have any authority whatsoever to propose any peace deal for the Middle East because historically, the God of Israel has offered “the peace deal of two millennium” and his people have stubbornly rejected it out of hand and remain hostile towards him and his Anointed King!
As Jesus approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you” (Luke 19:41-44).
Through Jesus the Messiah, God is offering the only way of peace. God’s peace deal is most certainly not negotiable for it has been bought through the precious blood of Jesus.
